BlackBerry vs. iPhone: Fight
Today when people are deciding to buy a new smartphone, they stuck with a question “BlackBerry or iPhone?” I’ve got to use both of the smartphones. I am not talking about BlackBerry Storm in this article though because BlackBerry Storm’s touchscreen just sucks. I had an iPhone 3G for about a month (I lost it..), and I have a BlackBerry Bold 9000 for about 3 months now. Honestly, I really love my blackberry, but it really depends on what you want from your phone.
Let’s start with pros of iPhone. iPhone is really great because of the number and diversity of the apps. There are a lot of apps that are free, and there are a lot of really cheap apps ($0.99) as well. The apps are just awesome. There are a lot of games, and most of them are really cool. If you don’t believe me check out the iTunes App store. The Facebook app is really great. My favourite feature about it is that you can chat with anyone who’s online. Another iPhone’s cool feature is obviously accelerometer. It makes the iPhone a great gaming platform.
Now, let’s talk about some cons. Unless your iPhone is jailbroken, you cannot customize your iPhone in any way but changing the wallpaper on the lock screen. So customization-wise iPhone is pretty poor. Again, unless your iPhone is jailbroken, there’s no way to have multitasking on your phone either. Well, yeah you can launch the iPod app and then some other app, and listen to your music and do something else at the same time. But you cannot launch two different apps at the same time, besides iPod app and something else, and be able to switch between them. Yeah yeah I know iPhone 4 came out a few weeks ago, and it has all of these functions and a front camera. That’s just awesome. I’d totally buy it, but why? There’s gonna be another iPhone next year. If you’re ready to spend $200 every year on a new iPhone, go ahead! (Read until the end, you’ll understand why I’m not comparing iPhone 4 with a BlackBerry) I’m just comparing the two phones.

Now let’s talk about Blackberry, pros first. First of all, a BlackBerry has a physical keyboard. In my opinion, it’s a lot more convenient to type on than on an “on-screen” keyboard. Besides the hardware, the software is amazing as well. The phone is very customizable. There are a plenty of themes you can choose from or can download free software made by BlackBerry and make your own themes. It’s very easy. Besides themes, in my everyday life I use many apps: music player, browser, weather, BlackBerry in South Africa (World Cup live score updater), and more. I need all of these apps to be running at the same time, AND I’d like to be able to switch between the applications. BlackBerry has it all. No need to jailbreak or hack anything. The coolest app on a Blackberry is obviously BBM (BlackBerry Messenger). It’s just like MSN, but it takes a lot less data. It’s completely free to message any person in the world that has a BlackBerry too. In addition, Blackberry has an MSN app that is totally free and works great. It comes with the OS already, what’s really surprising.
Now BlackBerry’s cons. BlackBerry obviously has its own App store, and many of the apps SUCK. I mean they’re really good.. But who in the world would buy an app for $6 or $8 or $20 or even more? $4 is the cheapest price on the app store I could find. Well, if you’re a businessman, and really need those office apps (Word, Spreadsheet, PowerPoint, etc.) that cost over a hundred dollars, then sure! Go ahead and buy it! Blackberry’s apps and their prices really piss me off. The prices, as you can see, are @#$%& high. The apps, comparing to iPhone’s apps, really suck.. iPhone’s balls.. Just joking
But if you compare them to the iPhone’s apps they’re bad. You can’t even search for people on Facebook by name (that aren’t your friends) or chat with your friends online! I mean.. What the heck is that?!
In conclusion (btw, conclusion is the place where you got tired of thinking..
), Blackberry is for people that love to text (or in other words that love to exercise their fingers..
). BBM, MSN, and the texting app are very cool and easy to use. In addition all BlackBerrys (BlackBerries?), except Storm, have a physical keyboard, what makes it really easy and convenient to type on. iPhone is for people that love free and cool apps. The apps are just awesome, and there’s really an app for everything. So the question is not “which phone is better?” It really depends on you and your needs. So choose wisely
PS: With iPhone 4 release, I wouldn’t even compare these two types of phones. iPhone 4 can do everything that is said above. So if you really want a “perfect phone”, get an iPhone 4 J iPhone 4 is a beast.
